It stretches for approximately 97 kilometers (60 miles), offering a diverse range of habitats and recreational opportunities along its course.

The river is renowned for its scenic beauty, with tranquil stretches perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing enthusiasts. Anglers are drawn to its waters in search of trout and salmon, while birdwatchers delight in spotting various avian species that inhabit the riverbanks.

Throughout history, the Sissiboo River has played a significant role in the region's economy, serving as a transportation route for timber and other goods.  In the winter, the riverside hills are covered with crystalline snow and winter wildlife. In the summer, you'll find delicate wildflowers and an abundance of beautiful wild animals.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL

The location of Sissiboo River Retreat means that each and every season here comes with its own distinct benefits. For many visitors, that offers the opportunity to make several visits a year, and enjoy distinctly different experiences. 


Regardless of the season you visit in, make sure you prepare yourself accordingly. If you’re coming in the summer, make sure you pack bug repellent as you’ll need it to stave off the black flies. And if you’re here in the early spring or late fall, bring plenty of warm clothes as the evenings can be chilly.

CLIMATE

TEMPERATURES

Daily summer temperatures can range from the mid-teens to 30°C. In the winter, they range from -5°C to -20°C. Depending on the season, and if permitted, a campfire will always set the perfect tone for an outdoor experience.

SNOWFALL

In the upper regions of of the Sissiboo River area, we receive an average of about 1.5 metres of snow per year - perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing!

RAINFALL

Best to prepare yourself for rain if you are coming in the summertime, as it generally rains every few days, and usually for several hours at a time. The winds can be strong, too, so come prepared.

TIDE TIMES

Is the tide falling or rising on the Sissiboo? Each turn of the tide

presents a different view of this magnificent river. Does the tide affect how the fish swim? Do they dance in the deep, protected by high waters, or do they shelter under the shadows when the tide is out? Best to check out the tide table for the Weymouth area. ☺
